Gaming:

Gaming has become a massive past time for people all over the world. Different kinds of gaming experiences include console based (like X-box 360’s, Playstations, Wii’s) where you can play alone or with people all over the world, games you can find online to play alone (i.e. on Miniclip, Mousebreaker) or MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games). These include games such as Runescape or World of Warcraft and are hugely popular.

MMORPG's often transport players into another universe with levels of participants, meaning hundreds can be playing at one time. The average MMORPG player spends 21 hours per week playing the game and can be asked by their guild to play through the night.

Online gaming can be addictive and unfortunately some players might take advantage of the close relationships which can sometimes be formed. Make sure you know how to stay in control of the risks.

Urban gaming language... some examples:

  1. Dudese

    Language created by the online gaming community to reflect being a "hip" online player. Dude, that run was l33t. Naggy got pwn3d. Wat j00 doin l8r? That's speaking dudese

  2. n00b

    a n00b in the gaming language is a newbie, an idiot or someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing. Scroob is also often used. e.g. He is using cheats and he doesnt kill nobody...n00b

  3. Pwned

    A basic error on the part of a Warcraft Map Designer; It is a misinterpretation of the word "owned" In gaming language, it means to be elite and "totally dominate" or to "Own" with a "p" or "Pwn"

    It can also be used as sort of a refrence to being "elite" or "uber"

    This word was first used when a Warcraft Map Designer messed up in his designing and programmed the computer(when the other player had lost) to say "You were owned." He made a typo and instead the computer ended up saying "You were pwned."

    "Dude, I just pwned you!" meaning "Dude, I just owned you!"

  4. larkinx0r

    A derivation of "Larkin," a 21st century gamer whose name was later dubbed to mean to anyone who had remarkable talent or skill at computer games. Eg: Counter-Strike, Warcraft III. The added ending, "x0r" is simply an abbreviation derived from an ancient "Leet" or "1337" language used by "haxorz" added on to a word to heighten it's coolness. As an internet gaming term, this word is now totally accepted in normal speech.
